In the heart of Naples, Florida, Beacon Outdoor Lighting had the chance to work on one of the more architecturally unique properties we’ve seen in a while—and the end result is a perfect reminder that you don’t need a massive estate to make a huge impact with landscape lighting.

This project was all about balance. The home itself was bold, eclectic, and packed with personality. The owners wanted lighting that would highlight every detail without overwhelming the space, and they wanted it to feel like a five-star escape every time they pulled into the driveway.

A Home with Character, and Layers of Design Inspiration

Let’s set the stage: this home was anything but cookie-cutter.

● New Orleans-style fixed window awnings gave it historic charm.
● A Key West-inspired metal roof added that tropical, coastal vibe.
● And touches of Mediterranean warmth came through in the use of natural stone—on walls, in the courtyard, and around the entry.

It was the kind of home where you notice something new every time you walk by. The goal of the lighting was simple: highlight all that personality without stealing the show.

The Challenge

● Illuminate the dense tropical landscape without creating glare or uneven shadows
● Maintain color consistency between architectural and landscape fixtures
● Choose components that could handle Southwest Florida’s heat.
● Fit everything into tight spaces, while keeping the visual design clean

Enter EmeryAllen: Small Lamps, Big Impact

We spec’d over 70 EmeryAllen MR16 lamps, and 8 Scout Aquatic Up-lights for this project—and they crushed it. Here’s why:

1. Lumen to Voltage Ratio
EmeryAllen has one of the best lumen-to-voltage ratios we’ve worked with. That allowed us to craft this outdoor lighting design with ease—keeping overall system voltage low while still packing a serious punch in light output.

2. Beautiful Color, Every Time
These lamps are 90+ CRI, which matters in all landscapes especially tropical environments like Naples. Bold colors and glossy textures are everywhere—deep greens, red foliage, polished wood, natural stone. Without high CRI, all that richness falls flat. With EmeryAllen, every subject was beautifully illuminated.

3. Heat Management Built In
LED performance drops fast in extreme heat—especially in Florida summers. EmeryAllen’s internal heat management design helps prevent output degradation and premature failure, which is huge when you’re working with a landscape lighting system in tough environments

Voltage Mixing Without Color Variance

This property used a mix of low-voltage (12v) LED’s and line-voltage (120v) fixtures. That usually introduces headaches when it comes to Kelvin variances.

The landscape system was all 12v, but the architectural lighting—like wall sconces and hanging pendants were your standard 120 volt. Thanks to EmeryAllen offering their LEDs in both voltages matching Kelvin temperatures without Kelvin variance was a breeze.

A lot of people don’t realize this, but there’s a huge difference in color temperature between manufacturers – even when they’re all labeled the same Kelvin. What one brand calls 3000K can look completely different from another’s. In some cases, there’s noticeable variance even within a single manufacturer. That’s never been an issue with EmeryAllen – their color consistency is rock solid across the board.

Lighting the Details

Fountain Courtyard with Scout Aquatic Uplights

At the heart of the home’s entry was a symmetrical courtyard fountain. We installed eight Scout aquatic uplights. It’s amazing to see the light play across the bubbling water, natural stone, and surrounding palms creating a welcoming, upscale vibe the second you enter.

Layered Tree & Canopy Lighting

When it came to the landscaping the approach was simple but dramatic.

● Birds-of-paradise were lit low and wide, accentuating their sculptural shape
● Multi-head palms: were lit with wide angle beam spreads to illuminate all canopy heads
● Wide Fishtail Palms were double-lit from two angles to create a soft, dimensional glow without shadow gaps
● Canopy Trees: Were illuminated from multi angles to accentuate them from the main interior viewing corridors

Subtle Architectural Lighting

The front and rear of the home are accented with sconces and pendants outfitted with EmeryAllen lamps, tying the architectural lighting seamlessly into the overall design and creating a cohesive, balanced look across the entire property.

The Homeowner’s Reaction

Let’s just say… it was colorful:

"#@%$ the house looks amazing. It feels like a mini resort."

– Actual homeowner words, Naples, FL

We laughed, but he wasn’t wrong. The home took on a completely new life at night—warm, layered, and inviting. Every corner felt intentional.
